Imperius Draconis was once your typical fantasy world. A wondrous place of heroes, villains, elves, dwarves, orcs, magic, dungeons and dragons... and more. This one in particular was populated by quite the number of dragons of all sorts of colors and sizes; the most notable being the metallic and chromatic types.
The most important part of the Imperius Draconis' history lies in the long war between humanoids and dragons. The so called heroes, though perhaps better suited to being referred to as adventurers, would often come into conflict with dragons for their treasure. The chromatic dragons were more often than not targeted as “villains”. Though a fair number of chromatic dragons did indulge in unsavory activities against humanoid-kind, there were still quite a bit more that were attacked without any provocation.
Even the metallic dragons were not safe, as the greed of adventurers would sometimes see them as uninvited guests to their lairs. It didn't help that top gold was paid for their scales as well. It wouldn't be long afterward that the dragons would all band together and declare war on the rest of the world.
The initial dragons' assault was devastating to their enemies, but it did not bring a swift resolution by any means. While a full grown dragon on its own was a powerful adversary, the humanoids grossly outnumbered dragon-kind. There was only so much damage they could do before word spread and the humanoids were able to band together to combat the menace.
Both sides had their strengths and weaknesses, but in the end the dragons were able pull through and defeat the humanoids. The dragons became masters of their world, the old name having since been lost to the passage of time, and the new age of Imperius Draconis would begin. The humanoids that survived were allowed to live, but more or less became slaves to the victors.
There were some minor territorial squabbles at first, but the ancient wisdom of long-lived dragons would soon see an accord brought forward that would ensure a peaceful livelihood. Society underwent a major change to accommodate the new way of life.
Technology began to progress at an alarming rate, and breakthroughs in magic became rather commonplace now that the dragons were making an effort to work together outside of the constant war effort that had once engulfed their world. Many a millenia passed before they made their biggest discovery...
… a way to other dimensions. Perhaps the most alarming discovery was that there were quite a number of other universes where humanoids were the ones in control. By this time, there were very few dragons left that remember the old war. While some expressed disapproval, it soon became obvious that going back to war was not an option. They had grown far too complacent to even hope to win an inter-dimensional confrontation of bloodshed.
It was fortunate for dragon-kind that the multi-versal alliance was more than willing to accept a peaceful co-existence with Imperius Draconis, and in fact did not even disapprove of their enslavement of the humanoids that existed in their world. It seemed that getting involved with a world's internal politics was one of the things they absolutely did not allow as long as it did not affect other universes.
It seemed that Imperius Draconis would thrive for some time still... if only it wasn't for a certain calamity...
Summary:
History:
Mitellux is a black dragon that was born to a clutch consisting of nine other siblings. As was the case with her kind, they often fought among themselves to establish who would be 'dominant'. Mitellux herself often did not bother to get involved in such scuffles, but at the same time was forced to prove herself by fighting some of her more aggressive siblings.
Only a mere week prior to a certain war that engulfed the world began, before Mitellux and her siblings were ready to leave their parents' lair, a number of adventurers found their way there. Mitellux's parents were ambushed with powerful magic, struck down before they even realized what was going on, and the rest of her siblings were mercilessly cut down. Mitellux managed to hide herself away, watching and etching the faces of each and every one of those that had murdered her family into her mind.
Weeks later, homeless, Mitellux would soon find herself joining the war effort when she only just became a young adult. Black dragons were known for being naturally stealthy, but the war in particular took a heavy toll on their numbers; leaving Mitellux a valuable asset when it came to intelligence gathering and eliminating key targets.
With revenge burning hot in her mind, Mitellux found little use in forming any emotional bonds with any of her fellow dragons and focused on doing her missions. She was an effective agent, taking quickly to her instincts as a stealthy hunter and eliminating a number of targets. Her ability to kill knights in particular had earned her a sort of joke title as the 'Legendary Can Opener'. As luck would have it, over the course of the war, she was able to kill a few that were responsible for the death of her family; however, she would never be satisfied. For the time being, as far as she was concerned, humanoids were a blight that needed to be eradicated.
The war, as they all tend to do, would eventually come to a close some twenty years later. Mitellux found herself as the last surviving female of her particular kind, and would come under pressure to mate with a male. None of them appealed to her, however, and she stubbornly refused any advances. Eventually, the others finally backed off. After all, Mitellux's contribution to the war was outstanding, and so they came to another solution: They would reward her by using powerful magic to grant her unaging life.
As the world settled into a long era of peace, Mitellux had herself instated as a keeper of law and order. More specifically, she was to ensure that the enslaved humanoids did not rise up against their masters. Settling into the new role was … somewhat difficult for her at first. She was used to being able to use whatever means possible to eliminate her enemies. She was forced to temper herself, lest she lose what political power she had. After all, she knew that eventually old dragons would be replaced with new; those that did not know the horror of the war they had gone through to become masters of their world. Without firsthand knowledge of what they'd gone through, the new blood would be less lenient toward lethal treatment of their slaves.
Mitellux did indeed have to squash a few minor rebellions here and there, but there was never anything that truly threatened the stability of the dragons' society. Really, all it helped was ensure that Mitellux's ability never rusted. Perhaps her paranoia was unfounded, that the slaves would never be organized enough to truly threaten them; or her constant vigilance was key in keeping them under control. Nobody would ever truly know.
A number of millenia passed by, and technology came to a point where they discovered artificial insemination. Mitellux was more than happy to bring her own specie of dragon back, but at the same time had lingering doubts as to how security would fare while she was busy raising a new generation of black dragons. Her worries were unfounded, however, but she still rejoined the security force once she had raised a small number of clutches.
Eventually, the breakthrough discovery of multi-verses came about. She was infuriated at the idea that they were making peace with other humanoids, but she simply lacked the power to have any real input on the matter. She was practically regarded as a living fossil by this point, and was only kept on as security for their world's internal matters due to her long history of rooting out budding rebellions.
While she still holds a long lingering grudge against humanoids, Imperius Draconis' alliance with the multi-versal organization would eventually see her temper towards the creatures dwindling to a smolder. However, even then, she was never allowed to cross over to other worlds. She was both an asset to internal security and, as the other dragons saw it, a potential liability that may endanger the alliance.
Personality:
Upon first meeting Mitellux, one is likely to discover she is to the point and direct in her manner. She tends to speak cleanly and clearly, making her intention known (assuming her intent is to be honest), and will not sugar coat anything for anybody. She has little use for making anything 'pretty' in her way of speaking, and is a very practical being.
Mitellux, as typical among dragons, is a proud creature that looks down on those she considers 'lesser' than herself. However, she is perfectly capable of toning this back; though more because she is both capable of deception as well as very aware of the possible threat that even the smallest creature could contain rather than any actual respect. Though, one could point out that there is respect in acknowledging the fact that anything could be a danger, but it's certainly not a positive sort of respect that she would hold by default.
That's not to say that she is incapable of feeling respect, however. Though they died of old age well before the calamity, Mitellux felt a deep respect for those that lead the war effort against the humanoids. Respect is a difficult thing to earn from Mitellux, but those that have it will discover they have somebody they can truly count on for difficult situations.
On the subject of difficult situations, Mitellux has a mind honed by warfare and is very capable in a fight. She is quick to analyze situations and decide the best way to strike. The dragon is a very ruthless fighter, and won't hesitate to kill any of her enemies no matter what their condition if she knows that it will help ensure victory.
On the matter of deception, Mitellux is a... somewhat capable actor able to take on the persona of an innocent young human (which incidentally, most dragons of her world are capable of transforming into a human form). She's not adverse to this form, but she would also prefer a stealthy approach rather than relying on her human form's “innocent looks” to get close to where she needs to be.
As is quite easy to deduce from her history, Mitellux has a very deeply rooted suspicion of anything human shaped(humanoids). While at present she is not inclined to merely kill those that present themselves to her, she will absolutely not give them her trust unless circumstances put her in a position where she either has no choice or they manage to prove themselves to be trustworthy.
Having lived so long, Mitellux is a hard creature to surprise or catch off guard. That's not to say she is completely in control of her emotions, because it is not obvious to many she was once a very emotionally driven creature. The subject of humans killing dragons is a very sore subject for her, definitely, but she knows better than to dive headlong into situations (as much as she may want to) as her long lived life has left her somewhat jaded. However, the idea that her entire civilization, after having worked so hard to ensure its safety, will most assuredly hit her very hard.
Mitellux is not a philosophical creature by any means, nor can she truly be considered 'wise'. After all, nearly her entire life has been dedicated to ensuring that the humanoids do not rise up against the chains that the dragons put on them. She has little interest nor use in much book learning. Pretty much she is just a practical creature that will do what she must to survive and ensure those that she cares about live as well.
As to the matter of caring about others, besides those that had earned her respect, she did care deeply about the offspring she had hatched during her time as a mother. While black dragons were notorious for their hatchlings fighting (and sometimes killing) amongst themselves, Mitellux took some care to ensure that casualties in this manner were minimal; that's not to say she was perfect, as a few of them still were torn apart during scuffles. In short, Mitellux does have caring maternal instincts... just don't expect a humanoid to be able to easily get such attachment from her.
Another odd thing that came about her long life is that Mitellux can be described as “old fashioned”. While she has accepted a few technological advancements, like what enabled her to have children without having to mate, she did little to actually learn how to use much of anything. In matters of security, she still used her old weapons that she employed back in the war. They were still as equally effective, at least...
So if there is one word that could describe Mitellux, it would be practical. She does what she must, when she must; and if somebody must die, then so be it. Life goes on, and she has no interest in dying for the sake of those she considers foolish.
Powers:
IS A DRAGON: Mitellux is not the largest dragon by any means, measuring about 29 feet in length plus a 22 foot tail. She certainly weighs enough that she could kill a normal human by just flopping on it. Also, as a dragon, she has the typical claw claw bite attack as well as a tail swipe.
Flight: She's a dragon with wings. This will be limited in the same manner as it is for Paarthurnax.
Human form: Three times a day, Mitellux is capable of transforming her shape to take on the appearance of a deceptively thin, 5'6 tall female human. This is a natural ability that most dragons from her world possess. Lasts until she changes back.
Acid breath: Mitellux is able to spray a very deadly acid. She's capable of using this in her human form, but the amount of acid that is discharged is not nearly as much as her dragon form. Three times a day ability.
Underwater breathing and swimming mastery: Black dragons are capable of breathing underwater indefinitely, and is also able to use all her abilities unhampered while submerged unless there is something peculiar about the water itself. A black dragon's natural habitat is swamp, so such an environment unless magically tampered with will not be a detriment for her.
Sneaky!: Mitellux is a very sneaky creature due to both her heritage as well as her experience during the war. This applies to both human and dragon forms; though the latter won't be terribly effective at hiding except in specific situations such as being in a swamp.
Lockpicking: She can pick standard key-based locks, assuming she has lock-picks on hand. Electronic locks? Nope. Of course, she can only do this in human form for obvious reasons.
Unaging: She was given a powerful enchantment that ensures she will never age nor die of old age. Unless somebody were to decide to break it, in which case she'll resume aging from where she left off. That said, she still has quite a bit of time ahead of her if this were to happen.
Knife: Mitellux possesses what seems to be a very plain knife, but it is, in fact, a very powerfully enchanted weapon capable of tearing through most protections. A weapon she was given to use in her human form (for subtle assassinations) during the war, it is bonded directly to her and will only appear while she is in human form.
Immunity to acid: No, not the kind that people trip on.
Entry: She can find her own way in.
